Mill Cottage is a romantic hidden treasure in its own Valley. The Cottage is in a lovely little 'Back to the Good Life' setting in a remote small-holding and has its own 11 acre fenced in meadow where your dog is welcome to run around in total safety. There are Badger watching hides, an Owl Tower and a Story telling thatched hut - all very magical and perfect for a very special break or holiday. A choice of lovely footpaths around the small holding have direct access over stiles into the adjancent Nature Reserves. Guests can also go 'Wild Swimming' in the half-acre spring-fed Mill Pond adjacent to the cottage. It has recently been drained, de-silted and the banks profiled to slope gently into the water. Since doing this a family of mallard have been brought up on the Mill Pond for the first time, and a family of tufted duck, plus the usual moorhens. There is a small rowing boat which guests are welcome to use, plus a coracle (an ancient form of boat made on a recent course) to have fun with, and two wooden jetties to launch them and swim from. At night, the area is virtually free of light-pollution and the only noises heard are made by birds, foxes, deer and the domestic poultry.
Mill cottage sleeps two and has one double bedroom and a sunny living room with a lovely wood-burning stove and beautiful views over the Mill Pond. Downstairs there is a fully fitted kitchen and dining area and a large walk in wet room style bathroom. You can visit the cellar and see the impressive state of the art 'Heat Exchange Unit' which gathers heat from the meadow and uses it to heat the underfloor heating and the hot water. This is a very, very ecologically designed place to stay and full details can be found on the website link above. There are lovely views out over the half-acre millpond which can be enjoyed from the sitting-room and bedroom on the first floor. The wet room bathroom is fully-tiled with a heated towel rail. We have made a completely new kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, combination microwave/oven, induction hob and a silgranite sink, breakfast bar and plenty of cupboard space, again with views over the pond. All prices include vat, towels, soap, linen, heating, a 'Proper English Breakfast' welcome pack and a supply of breakfast basics like real coffee and tea etc. The cottage is a complete little home and facilities include modern heating, TV, DVD player, books, games and a fully equipped kitchen including electric hob and oven and a microwave. A travel cot is provided for babies (please bring your own bedding). There are 70 acres of small-holding to explore, plus three adjacent nature reserves and there are a further 11 acres of new woodland which are fenced in, and very useful for exercising dogs.
The owners of Mill Cottage have just completed an amazing 'Barn Owl Tower' - this is a small two-storey building built of strawbales on a course led by "Amazonails" (whose house in Wales won the Grand Designs eco section recently). It is in a small meadow by the stream, near the fenced woodland where guests can let their dogs run free. This is a wonderful place to watch nature from. A pair of barn owls have just taken-up residence in the Barn Owl Tower and can be seen hunting everyday, in the late afternoon and evening. Two owl chicks have been ringed in July, and one of the guests saw a Goshawk in the same month.
