Email Enquiryfor more informationSouth Elmham Hall is a Grade 1 listed farmhouse with a fascinating history. The current Hall dates back to the 13th Century and was built by the Bishops of Norwich who held the South Elmham villages at Domesday as part of the ancient Saxon estates. The hall and farm where acquired from Henry VIII in 1540, by Edward Lord North, and in the following 460 years the property has changed hands only four times. Among its many features are the earliest domestic wall paintings in East Anglia and its beautiful moated gatehouse and gardens.
The Minster has a mysterious past, with medieval documents referring to the building but giving no explanation as to the building's function. The ruins consist of a flint rubble building lying within a Roman ditch and bank enclosure. Excavations have revealed a great deal about the history of the building, but there is still so much to learn. Experience the ambience of the surroundings for yourself by visiting this intriguing and enigmatic site.
