Welcome to the Hillside Animal and Shire Horse Sanctuary in Norwich! Founded in 1995 by Wendy Valentine the Hillside Animal Sanctuary is the now home of over 1000 animals! The sanctuary campaigns for both animal needs and public awareness of the animal rights abuses found everyday in the intensive factory farming industry. The sanctuary was originally founded by Wendy after she witnessed a battery hen's struggle. Here at Hillside we are home to a variety of farm animals including a highland cow, dairy cows, mules, horses, ponies, donkeys, goats, alpacas, pigs, sheep, chickens, turkeys, ducks and rabbits.

Enjoy a day out with the whole family visiting the Hillside Animal and Shire Horse Sanctuary at one of our open days. Here you can meet the rescued animals and five breeds of heavy horses. We offer horse displays on some days and blacksmith days. Experience a trip to the past in the Farming Bygones Museum where you can see farming techniques and equipment from day gone by. There are children's play and activity areas, an indoor area for during wet weather, an animal friendly cafe and gift shop. Dogs are welcome too, please keep these on a lead.
