Bircham Windmill is considered one of the best mills still operational in Norfolk, a rare survivor from the days when the Norfolk countryside was covered in mills for grinding corn and bread making. It is the only windmill in working order in the area which is open to the public, giving visitors of all ages a unique insight into the historic importance of windmills to agriculture and the general way of life. Visitors can climb the five floors up to the fan stage and, when possible, on windy days, visitors can also see the sails and the milling machinery turning. There's so much to see and do, from meeting our goats to sheep milking, picnics to the Children's Baking Corner. The bakery is still producing quality bread and cakes, as well as a great range of baking accessories. There's free entry to most of the site, with admission only charged for the Windmill Museum.
